Adolescent substance use in Minneapolis

Reaching teens early, before a habit becomes a life

Teen substance use is rarely just about the substance. It is tangled up with stress, identity, and belonging, which is why lectures and punishment so rarely work. What works is understanding, structure, and skilled help.

We provide specialized outpatient counseling for adolescents across Minneapolis using vaping, alcohol, cannabis, and other substances, without shaming them or writing them off.

We earn a teen's trust and coach parents at the same time, because the earlier a young person gets real help, the more their whole future opens back up.

Our approach

Proven methods, built for teenagers

Teens are not small adults. Our approach fits how they actually think, feel, and change.

Motivational Interviewing

We skip the power struggle and help teens find their own reasons to change.

CBT and skills

Practical tools to handle triggers, big emotions, and peer pressure without using.

Family involvement

We coach parents and shift the patterns at home, because families are part of the solution.

Coordinated with school and court

When needed, we work alongside schools and the justice system to support your teen.

Faith-informed, never forced. For families who want it, we integrate faith and spiritual support. For those who do not, it is never a condition of care. Every teen is welcomed exactly as they are.
The evidence

Why reaching teens early matters so much

The adolescent brain is still forming, which makes it more vulnerable to addiction and more responsive to help. Early, skilled intervention can change the entire trajectory of a young person's life.

The vast majority of lifelong substance problems begin in the teen years. That is the sobering news. The hopeful news is that this is exactly when treatment does the most good.

9 in 10
adults with a substance use disorder began using before age 18, which is why early help matters so much (National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse).
72.2%
of adults who ever had a substance use problem consider themselves recovering or recovered (SAMHSA, 2021).

Common questions

Questions parents ask first

How do I know if it is experimenting or a real problem?

That is exactly what an assessment sorts out. If use is affecting mood, grades, friendships, or behavior, or you simply have a gut feeling, it is worth a conversation.

Will what my teen says stay private?

A trusting relationship is what makes teen treatment work. We are transparent with families about how confidentiality works for minors, and we always involve parents when safety is at stake.

My teen does not think they have a problem. Can therapy still help?

Yes. Meeting resistance is normal, and our approach is built for it. We start by building trust, not by demanding agreement.

Do you take insurance?

We work with many major Minnesota plans. Verify your coverage here and we will confirm your benefits privately, with no obligation.
