Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Counseling In Plymouth, MN

At Ark Counseling, all counselors who carry a caseload have a minimum of a Master’s Degree. Our in-house counselors have training and expertise in providing therapy to people who have chemical and/or mental health concerns. Some of our therapists are licensed in mental health and chemical health. Services are available to people who are 18 years old or older. All services are provided in an outpatient setting, by appointment, and are fee-for-service. We do not provide any type of crisis or emergency chemical or mental health services – or detoxification. Each admission is based on established criteria that are available to the public. People who have serious physical or mental health problems are eligible for admission to Ark Counseling’s group therapy programs if they are clinically stable and do not pose a risk to self or a distraction to their peer group.

Assessments And Evaluations

Chemical use assessments and mental health evaluations are available, by appointment, five days per week. They require a face-to-face interview and generally take 90 minutes and about 90 minutes of paperwork, combined. After the interview is completed, it is necessary for the counselor to speak with two people who know the client well enough to validate information and to provide perspective. If the client has a probation officer, a parole officer, a child protection case worker, a mental health therapist, etc., it is mandatory that the counselor speak with them. Results from assessments and evaluations are not available until after all communication with contacts have been completed. Assessments and evaluations are generally completed within 3-5 business days of a face-to-face interview.

Chemical Use Groups

Intensive Outpatient (IOP) treatment is defined as 3, 4 or 5 days per week. Outpatient (OP) treatment is defined as 1 or 2 days per week. The number of days per week a person participates in group therapy is initially determined by their Chemical Health Assessment. All groups are three hours long. Morning groups are offered three days a week (beginning at 10 am) and evening groups are offered four days a week (beginning at 6:30 pm). All clients should anticipate participating in one-on-one counseling.

Program completion is based upon reaching specific clinical outcomes – not on the number of days or hours a person has been in treatment (these criteria are spelled out in the Informed Consent Disclosures document that is downloadable and available at the bottom of this page). All of Ark’s programs are abstinence-based. This means a client may not use any mood altering agent while s/he is involved in one of Ark’s programs. With close medical supervision and accountability, the use of certain prescription medications may be permitted. Random urine and breath tests are given to all clients and a pattern of non-abstinence will result in a client being discharged from treatment.

Ark Counseling is best described as 12-Step friendly. Each therapist adapts his/her theoretical approach to the needs of the individual client. Every client has a written treatment plan that requires a couple hours a week of out-of-group time. Generally, one or two assignments are due each week. All reading material is provided free of charge.

Informed Consent

Ark Counseling is very committed to establishing and maintaining a positive and productive partnership with clients. At intake each client is provided with information that helps them to make informed choices about their health care. One document that serves as a foundation to this alliance is Ark’s Policy and Procedure entitled Informed Consent Disclosures. A PDF version is available by clicking here.
