Employment And Internships

Ark Counseling, LLC is licensed by the MN Department of Human Services to provide Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP) to adults who have co-occurring mental health and chemical use problems. Therapists at Ark are dual licensed with a LPCC and a LADC. Each therapist has at least a masters degree in Addiction Counseling. 95% of the work is within the context of group psychotherapy. There are day and evening groups. All groups meet for 3 hours duration. The day group meets on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays 10 am to 1 pm. There are two different evening groups and both meet from 6:30 pm to 9:15. One group meets on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and the other meets on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Ark is an outcomes based program.

In general, the morning group has a higher acuity of patients. One of the evening groups commonly has patients who are licensed to practice as healthcare providers, or veterinarian medicine or law.

Ark Counseling has a licensed drug testing laboratory in the facility. It is supervised by a person who holds a PhD in toxicology. Urine drug tests are given a minimum of x2 per week.

Internships are available for graduate students, and rarely for people who are completing a bachelor’s degree. Competitive candidates are people who are interested in working with patients who have co-occurring disorders and who are willing to invest 6 months or more at Ark. As a medium sized treatment facility interns can anticipate experiencing all dimensions of clinical practice including, but not limited to, screening calls, assessments, intakes, group and individual psychotherapy, and documentation. Applicants should send a copy of all undergraduate and graduate courses taken (with grades) and a job history for the past 5 years. MN law requires interns pass a criminal background check and be problem free of alcohol/drug problems for the past 2 years.
